My dog has a few beds... one for daytime naps, one for nighttime, and a third for sleepovers. (Yes, Lucky is in the middle of the kids when either of my kids have a sleepover).
I personally think every dog should have a dog bed. It helps prevent his joints from aching, gives comfort and is "his" space. There really are many different styles of dog beds, and selecting the best bed for you dog is really important.
